Students who have an interest in exploring the fundamental nature of elements and composition of compounds can pursue B.Sc Chemistry course. The skills required to cope up with the B.Sc Chemistry curriculum are a good understanding of chemical equations and evaluation skills. Candidates must be good with experiments and laboratory work. They must have patience while performing laboratory research.
B.Sc Chemistry is the fundamental course after which candidates can go for higher education or pursue jobs in public or private sectors. After the completion of the course, candidates can take up job roles like Chemist, Researcher, Patent Associate, and Lab Assistant. Nowadays, most industries use chemicals in everyday manufacturing like pharmaceuticals, electronic products, food packaging etc. Thus, the need for B.Sc chemistry graduates is always high in these industries.
Chemistry is that physical science which includes the study of a range of matters such as atoms, crystals, molecules and many other collections of matters whether they are in isolation or in combination. It also involves the concepts of energy and entropy that are related to the spontaneity of various chemical processes. Since this is a branch of natural sciences, it is commonly known as “The Science of Matter”.
Professionals working in this field are called chemists. They study the various compositions of matters and its concerned properties like density, size, shape and acidity. Usually the chemists specialize in one or more sub disciplines depending on their interests and the choice of their specialized field.
B.Sc Chemistry is the under graduate degree awarded by many universities in India for the students after the successful completion of their Intermediate with MPC or BiPC. The course in chemistry is useful for the students in various aspects and offers them with bright career. The course helps the students in improving their diverse skills in various areas such as laboratory skills, numerical and computing skills, ability to approach to the problems both analytically and logically, time management skills, etc.
Career opportunities
The B.Sc chemistry graduates have many options for their higher studies. Majority of these graduates opt for master’s degree in the same. But they can also choose various specialized areas in this field for the post graduation courses. Many universities offer the study of chemistry at post graduate and at doctoral levels. For joining M.Sc in chemistry or related discipline courses, they have to pursue B.Sc form any recognized universities with at least 55% marks. Some of the higher study options after B.Sc Chemistry are
The chemicals are used in almost every field such as medicines, food products, and electronics and even in construction activities. This creates many opportunities for the chemistry graduates in diverse fields. The industries, specially chemical and pharmaceutical, the universities and government laboratories are the three major employers who recruit Chemistry graduates. The entry level jobs in this field usually require at least the bachelor’s degree in chemistry.
The chemical industries are also doing well in India and there is huge demand for chemists for various positions. Some of the job types for these graduates include
The employment areas for the B.Sc Chemistry graduates include pharmaceutical industries, chemical manufacturers, Forensic Science Department, plastic industries, agrochemical industries, etc. Apart from these, they are also recruited in other fields such as oil, gas and power sectors and even in defense services
